Grassy Point Preserve Boardwalk Complete

The newly constructed boardwalk at Grassy Point Preserve on Anna Maria Sound in Holmes Beach is now open to the public for low-impact recreation. The walking trail through the 34-acre preserve takes visitors through upland habitat with native plants such as sea oxeye daisy, seaside goldenrod, and buttonwood before meandering through mangrove wetlands on a newly-constructed boardwalk.

The preserve property was purchased by the City of Holmes Beach in 2000 with a grant from the Florida Communities Trust. SBEP managed the restoration of intertidal wetlands and coastal hammock with grants from the Southwest Florida Water Management District and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. Sarasota Bay Guardian volunteers helped plant hundreds of native vegetation starts that are now flourishing.
