Other Volunteer Opportunities

Stormdrain Marking

Not everyone knows that you shouldn’t dump oil, trash, grass, or dirt down the storm drain. SBEP, Sarasota County and Manatee County are looking for volunteers to assist with the storm drain marking program to encourage people not to dump chemicals into local storm drains. Please contact info@sarasotabay.org if you are interested in supporting this effort.

Pet Waste Pollution

Did you know that pet waste is a significant source of nutrients and fecal coliform bacteria entering Sarasota Bay? Just like human waste, dog poop poses a threat to both public health and water quality. Approximately 26 tons of pet waste (52,000 pounds) is deposited on the ground in Sarasota and Manatee Counties every day. Unfortunately, some of the dog waste gets washed down the storm drains and delivered untreated to the closest waterway. Contact info@sarasotabay.org to help educate dog owners about the proper way to dispose of pet waste and at the same time improve water quality. Thank you for remembering to Scoop That Poop!

Bay Guardians VolunteersPublic Outreach Support

SBEP welcomes volunteers to help promote Bay-friendly stewardship at various public events. We also welcome volunteers to help contact local organizations to promote practices that reduce stormwater pollution. Please contact Sara Kane at sara@sarasotabay.org if you are interested in volunteering to support select events as a SBEP ambassador.

Internship Program

SBEP works with local colleges and high schools to identify highly motivated students and alumni for internship opportunities. Duties could include office support, field trips, partnership meetings, habitat education, field studies, festivals, and special projects. Please contact Sara Kane at sara@sarasotabay.org.
