Bay Guardians at Emerson Point Preserve

Volunteers with the SBEP Bay Guardians completed a project at the 365-acre preserve located at the mouth of the Manatee River. The 39 adult and student volunteers worked with professional staff from Manatee County Natural Resources and guides with Around the Bend Nature Tours to plant native Florida plants, remove invasive plants and make portable “Stow It-Don’t Throw It” containers for unusable monofilament fishing line. Participating groups included Bradenton Cub Scout Pack 22 and Apollo Beach Cub Scout Pack 93. The Florida-native plants were donated by the Elizabeth Eaton Fund through the Manatee Garden Club and materials for the portable monofilament containers were donated by the West Coast Inland Navigational District. Thank you to everyone who helped on this project – organizers, staff, guides, and volunteers. Photos by Christine Sciarrino.
