Low Impact Development Expo at Twin Lakes Park

One hundred guests attended the area’s first ever Low Impact Development Expo at the Sarasota County Extension Office located at Twin Lakes Park in Sarasota. The event featured expert speakers from the area and other communities in Florida. Examples of low impact development products and techniques include green roofs, vertical walls, planter vaults, pervious pavement, native plants, rain gardens, specialty soil products and water cisterns. Expert speakers also explained some of the local LID projects including the Honore Avenue Design Build Project and the West Dearborn Street LID Pilot Project in Englewood. Congratulations to the event organizer Angela Maraj. Angela was supported by a SBEP Bay Partners Grant. Low impact development is one of the SBEP priorities because of its benefit to local water bodies associated with Sarasota Bay and its watersheds. Photos by Randy Moore.
